About The Range
The Range originated in the markets of the Southwest where Chris Dawson started business in 1980 as an open air market trader. It is from these humble roots that The Range has grown with the company opening the first 'superstore' at Sugar Mill Business Park in Plymouth in 1989. There are now 33 stores as far afield as York offering 65,000 products across 16 departments and employing over 2,500 staff.

The Range is recognised for its unique variety, and for offering affordable quality in its range of products. The Range concept is to offer 'mid-price' home, leisure and garden products, drawing together everything that could be needed for the stylish home at affordable prices.

In 2005 The Range ranked 78 on The Sunday Times Price Waterhouse Coopers profit track 100 league tables of the UK's fastest growing companies. In 2006 a congratulatory award was presented by Cadbury Trebor Bassett in recognition of sales achievements. On a personal level, Chris Dawson's entrepreneurial talent has earned him wide
recognition amongst the business community.

How To Get Started
We've selected the best from The Range to create a great range of products which you can access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer. We hope that you’ll find using our website quick and convenient. And you can trust The Range to guide you safely through the online shopping experience, because your privacy and security is extremely important to us.

These four features will help make your shopping experience even easier.

Home page link: You can get back to our home page at any time by clicking on the The Range logo which appears on the top left-hand side of the screen, or the home button under the logo.

Navigation bar (Buttons at the top): The names on the navigation bar near the top of the screen directly under the The Range logo are the "departments" of our online shop. Clicking on one of these names will take you to a new page that contains all sections and products included within it. The menu on the left hand side of the screen gives you more refined options. Remember if you get lost, just click on the logo at the top.

Search box: The search box is always on the left-hand side of the screen. You can search by product or brand name, key words such as the product type, or the product code.

You can search in broad terms such as Furniture, or be more precise such as Sofas or Sofa Bed. A generic term such as Bag may return far too many results for you to sift through; however, if you put in Handbag, then you’ll get a much more refined result to look at.

Your basket: The number of items in your basket can always be seen at the top right of the screen. To see what you have in your basket you need to click the “Your basket” link. When you click on your basket it shows you the quantity, title and subtotal of any product(s) you’ve put into your basket. From here you can see how much the whole order is including delivery.

Is The Website Accessible To Disabled Users?
Accessibility statement: The Range recognises the importance of providing a website that is accessible to all the user groups, including the disabled, the visually impaired and those with motor deficiencies.

Our statement explains the accessibility features we have implemented to help you use our website. They help to improve navigation for use of screen readers, keyboard navigation and text-only browsers.

You can find out about this website's accessibility features in the sections below:

Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback regarding the accessibility of this site or if you experience any difficulty using it. Alternatively you can email us on webcustomerservice@therange.co.uk

General information

We've designed this site with accessibility in mind. Some of the general features include: The use of clear, simple language which is easy to understand and is simple to use. The use of common web conventions for ease of navigation through the website. Avoiding the use of blinking or flickering elements. The use of validated HTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Standards Compliance

We have strived to ensure our website conforms to level A compliance as specified by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

Background, text and colour

Careful use of text colours, size and background colours can help people with a range of visual impairments. Here's what we've done:

Colours

Our site is usable by anyone with colour deficient vision. We've checked the site's font and background colour to ensure there are no combinations against the different colour blindness conditions and ensured that all information is still clear.

Font and text size

While we've used clear, legible font for all text and headings you may need to alter the size. In the Firefox browser, select View, then Text Size, and then choose increase, or decrease. In the Explorer browser, click on Page and scroll down to Text Size.

Style sheets

This site uses cascading style sheets
(CSS) for visual layout. Where possible,
we've also made our website navigable,
usable and readable if your browsing
device does not support style sheets.

Scripts

Our website uses JavaScript to improve usability and the online shopping experience.

Links and navigation

Structuring a website so it is simple and streamlined to use helps to improve the experience for all. For example, placing page items in a logical order and making the website easy to navigate helps people with visual impairments, motor deficiencies and cognitive disabilities.

Navigation

We've made navigation links consistent between pages throughout the site. The site is also fully accessible using only the keyboard and can be navigated with scripting disabled.

Pop-up windows

Our website does not use pop-up windows unless they are appropriate. Acceptable cases, for example, are when it is important to see the browser window you've just navigated from in the background.

Forms and tables

Clearly labelled tables help readers to understand the content on a page and to fill in content into correct form fields.

Frames

Although there are a limited number of critical pages on this site which use frames, we try not to use frames as they are a barrier to accessibility. Any frames which we do use have descriptive titles to help screen readers to make sense of the content of the page.

Tables

We do occasionally use tables for layout but we ensure we follow WCAG guidelines. This means tables do not have any structural mark-up for visual purposes and they make sense when presented in a linear way.
