Why are some tariffs not featured on your site?
Some tariffs (often called indirect tariffs) have certain requirements which the customer must comply with in order to qualify for that tariff, such as an existing affiliation with a bank or other institution, or a certain profile of energy usage, qualifying age, etc.
In some circumstances you may currently be on a tariff that is no longer available to new customers (a historical tariff) or you may be receiving a discount or special offer from your current supplier.

Why can I not locate a specific energy supplier on your site?
The Range aims to provide consumers with the best possible choice. Whilst we would like to show tariff data for all licensed suppliers and resellers, this relies on their co-operation.
Zest4 Electricity became insolvent in 2006, and British Gas was appointed by Ofgem as the new supplier. As a result Zest4 tariffs are no longer displayed on www.therange.co.uk
The service provider Basic Power went into
administration, and the electricity
regulator has appointed London Energy,
part of EDF Energy (owned by Electricite
de France) as their customers new supplier.
As Basic Power are no longer an energy
supplier they are not featured on
http://www.therangeenergysaver.co.uk/.

Why can I receive quotes from some suppliers, but not complete the switching process with them on your site?
Unlike other switching sites, The Range Energy Saver compares prices from all suppliers, not just those with whom we allow customers to switch to. If we do not feature switching with a supplier, you can follow a link to their website from the results page and switch with them directly if you choose.

Why are the tariffs on the website different from those that I am currently paying, with the same supplier?
There are a number of possible explanations for this:
1. In some circumstances you may currently be on a tariff that is no longer available to new customers (a historical tariff) or you may be receiving a discount or special offer from your current supplier. The Range Energy Saver only lists current tariffs that are available to the general public.
2. Another explanation is if you have used estimates to complete your switching quote, rather than actual figures.
3. The The Range Energy Saver calculator calculates your current tariff for the coming 12 months, not your previous 12 months. It assumes the tariffs that are currently available will not change, and nor will your usage. Therefore, if your current tariff was affected by any price changes in the preceding 12 months, you will not get the same result as the calculator, which uses tariffs as at the day of your calculation.
For the most accurate result, we recommend that you enter your gas and electricity inputs as USAGE in kWHs, rather than spend, as kWhs do not fluctuate with price changes, unlike your spend.

Why should I switch with The Range Energy Saver rather than directly with an energy supplier?
The benefit of using a switching site is that it gives you access to thousands of tariffs and payment options at the click of a button, saving you hours of research. The Range Energy Saver gives you access to the same tariffs and payment options as you would receive directly from a supplier, although, on some occasions energy suppliers have the discretion to offer additional discounts direct to customers. On the other hand, sometimes they pass these discounts onto customers via switching sites.

When should I hear from my new supplier?
You should hear from your new supplier within 7-14 days of completing the switch on our website.

What happens if I switch and my new
supplier changes their prices?
Since it takes on average 6-8 weeks to switch
supplier, there is a chance that your new
supplier may make a change to their prices
before you are fully switched. Those new prices
will apply to your tariff unless you have chosen
a product that guarantees the price you will pay
for a certain period - these are known as capped
tariffs and they usually have a fixed term. You
will normally have to pay a little more for these
tariffs, but they do ensure no further increases
in your bills.
Energy suppliers have to announce any price rises to the general public, and the The Range Energy Saver site will reflect those rises immediately. Another helpful element of the The Range calculator is that if you have saved a quote and then energy prices increase, next time you open the quote, it will automatically update with your new results.

If I switch supplier, how long do I have to stay with my new supplier for?
You should ensure you read the terms and conditions of the supplier that you are switching to, as some suppliers may provide a favourable rate when customers sign up for a certain period of time. The The Range service is updated whenever supplier prices change, so you can come back any time to see if you could make savings with another supplier. Sometimes energy suppliers will notify you of a price increase, so this could be a good time to check the The Range Energy Saver service again. It is worth noting that as your power usage could vary considerably over the year, it is helpful to have a year's worth of energy bills to compare with.
